Whether it’s a storm-felled camphor stump sprouting shoots on the coast or an ironbark stump cracking pavers in local heritage lanes, the Steve Cubs family team is here to help. With tracked grinders, tight-access ramps and 30 years of local soil smarts, we mill stumps cleanly, vacuum the chips and leave you with a fresh canvas, ready for turf, decks or veggie beds.
We mill stumps 150–300 mm under grade so mowers glide and roots can’t reshoot.
Need to replant a jacaranda or pour footings? We winch, dig and cart away the entire root ball.
PROBLEM STUMPS, EXPERTLY CLEARED
Our region’s damp climate and varied soils (from heavy river-flat clays in the Wilsons River area to sandy coastal earth around Ballina and rich volcanic soils in Alstonville) mean stumps quickly attract termites. What you can expect:
LOCAL EXPERTS, LASTING RESULTS
In our lush Northern Rivers climate, an old stump isn’t just an eyesore; it’s a hidden feast for termites and borers. Our certified arborists can assess if full stump and root ball removal is the best way to eradicate these threats, especially if pests are already active.
Got a stump in a tricky spot? Our tech features high-speed cutting wheels with carbide-tipped teeth, efficiently milling stumps below ground level. These machines are designed for manoeuvrability, allowing us to access confined spaces such as near structures or delicate garden beds with minimal impact.
For homeowners, stumps are an obstacle, making lawn care a chore. For property developers or those undertaking commercial projects, a stump is a barrier to new construction or landscaping. Even for avid gardeners, old roots can interfere with replanting efforts. The grinding process itself produces useful mulch, which can be a great by-product for your garden beds.
Removing unsightly stumps improves your property’s appearance, eliminates trip hazards and makes lawn care easier. Get your yard back for family fun, gardening or simply relaxing.
For commercial properties, stump removal betters aesthetics, contributes to visitor safety and can be vital for site maintenance or expansion. Businesses and strata sites lift presentation scores, avoid WHS fines and free room for new planting, site maintenance or property expansion.
Developers, councils and farms get obstacle-free ground for slabs, paths or orchard rows. Stump grinding clears obstacles for development and upgrading community areas.

SEE WHAT CLIENTS SAY
That old tree stump raising more questions than your lawn? You’re not alone. Many Northern Rivers residents wonder about the nitty-gritty of getting rid of them. Below are some straight answers. For anything else, just ask the team.
Standard jobs finish with the stump ground 200mm–250mm below the existing grade. This is ideal for new turf or paving. If you’re planning deeper work like a footing trench or a pool shell, we can excavate to 600mm and provide a formal tree report to document the clearance for council or engineer sign-off.
It's best to give the soil 4–6 weeks to rebalance its microbes after grinding. Then, enrich the area by mixing in some composted quality mulch. We advise planting your new tree about 30cm off-centre from the old stump to bypass any remaining decomposing wood pockets and encourage strong, straight tap-root growth.
We always run a thermal scope before starting any cutting. Suppose micro-bats, blue-tongue lizards, possums or other wildlife are detected. In that case, licensed WIRES carers are called to safely box and relocate them within a 50m radius, as required by the NSW Biodiversity Act. The GPS location of the release is then noted in your job completion file.
Our cutters efficiently mill the main stump flare and the major surface roots. Deeper lateral roots will typically remain and compost naturally in the soil over 3-5 years. If you’re laying a concrete slab or a fibreglass pool, it's best to choose complete root-ball removal to avoid future soil voids or sinking.
